Which way does an FT-101 fan blow?

Postby KL7IGB » Thu Mar 16, 2017 2:49 am

Does the fan on an FT-101 series transceiver blow in or out? I'm thinking it should be easy to fit my FT101B with a modern 12v PC fan but which way to aim it?

You want to draw air out of the PA compartment. Less dust gets in that way.

There are 12V DC fans that have a thermistor in the airflow. Controls the speed, faster as the temperature of the air rises. This is only effective when used as an exhaust fan, drawing the hot air out, across the fan and the thermistor.

Just don't get the finals too hot. The original fan was all metal. A fan made of thermoplastic won't tolerate temperatures as high as the factory fan could.

If your factory fan is working then I would not change it.

If your factory fan is not working it might just need a tear down, clean, and lube. I would try that first.
