Yaesu FP-12 & FP-4

The FP-12 provides 13.8 VDC at 12 amperes, designed for use with the FT-7B and CPU-2500R transceivers, and includes an 8 ohm speaker for base-station listening.

The FP-4 provides 13.8 VDC at 4 amperes for base-station operation of the FT-7, FT-227R, FT-817, or similar DC-operated transceivers.

The FP-4 makes a good choice for QRP operation.

Both the FP-12 and FP-4 use the TA7089M voltage regulator IC found in several Yaesu FP-series supplies. The original 8-pin radial-lead package is no longer available; the TA7089P in a 14-pin DIP package must be used as a replacement.

Yaesu formerly sold replacement TA7089P units (P/N D3000448) mounted on a small adapter board with wire leads — that part is also obsolete. When repairing these supplies, you are largely on your own locating a suitable regulator.
